PROMYS Pathways Explorers

PROMYS Pathways Explorers was developed as a free summer mathematics enrichment program for Massachusetts students entering grades 5 and 6. The program was designed for students who are curious, creative, and interested in exploring mathematical ideas with others.

Program Overview

Explorers was designed to introduce younger students to mathematics as something to investigate and discover, rather than simply a collection of procedures to learn.

Students would explore interesting mathematical questions, look for patterns, test ideas, explain their thinking, and learn from one another. The curriculum was designed around mathematical ideas that are accessible to younger students while still offering opportunities for deeper exploration and surprising connections.

Previous participation in advanced mathematics classes or enrichment programs would not be required. PROMYS Pathways is especially interested in creating opportunities for students who may have limited access to mathematics enrichment outside of school.
