PROMYS Pathways Summer Program
The PROMYS Pathways Summer Program is a free, four-week mathematics enrichment program for high school students in the Greater Boston area, with a particular focus on students who have had limited access to extracurricular mathematics opportunities, including students from low-income backgrounds. Based on the Boston University campus, the program gives students the opportunity to spend part of their summer learning in a university environment while becoming part of a supportive mathematical community. Students explore challenging mathematical ideas through problem solving, pattern-finding, conjecturing, and proof, with time to think deeply, test ideas, and learn from one another. Supported by experienced mentors, students build confidence in approaching unfamiliar problems, deepen their understanding of mathematics, and connect with peers who share their curiosity.
PROMYS Pathways Math Circles give students opportunities to engage with mathematics in creative, challenging, and social ways throughout the school year. Offered through partnerships with schools, libraries, community centers, and other sites across the Greater Boston area, the circles bring free mathematical enrichment into communities where students already learn and gather. Depending on the age group and setting, students may explore mathematical games and puzzles, work together on hands-on activities, or investigate problems and ideas that extend beyond the standard classroom curriculum. Facilitated by experienced educators and mentors, the circles are designed to foster curiosity, confidence, and enjoyment in mathematics while helping students see themselves as part of a mathematical community. PROMYS Pathways also offers a Virtual Math Circle for students who may not have access to an in-person program.
